A Class A is the bus-shaped motorhome, the largest thing you can drive on an ordinary Utah licence, and it suits a group of six or more who want a separate bedroom, a full bathroom and a kitchen you can stand up in. Thirty-seven were listed within 50 miles of downtown Salt Lake City on 18 September 2026, from $100 to $1,795 a night, median $286, the highest median of any class here.

What you get in a Class A RV

Licence
No special licence. Utah Code 53-3-102(3) makes a Class D licence the one for motor vehicles that are not commercial vehicles or motorcycles, and 53-3-102(7)(b)(iv) keeps a recreational vehicle driven as a personal conveyance out of the commercial definition. Utah has no non-commercial Class A or B licence; those letters exist only as CDL classes. There is a tension in Utah's own sources worth knowing before you book something heavy: the Utah Driver Handbook 2026 says a Class D licence covers personal vehicles up to 26,000 pounds, a ceiling the statute's RV exemption does not carry, and Utah publishes no sentence saying a personal motorhome above that weight may be driven on a Class D licence. Ask the Driver License Division rather than assuming either reading.
What it is like to drive
Wide, tall and long, with a flat front that puts you ahead of the front wheels and changes where you start a turn. The bars that bind it in Utah are Zion's 35 ft 9 in length and 7 ft 10 in width, both measured with mirrors and roof fittings included, and Bryce Point Road which closes to anything over 20 ft.

A Class A is a motor vehicle, so the 2.5 percent state and 7 percent county rental tax apply on top of 8.45 percent sales tax, unless the rental runs 30 consecutive days or the GVWR is 14,001 lbs or more. 22 of the 27 publishing a GVWR here are.
Utah Code 59-12-102(135) defines a short-term rental as less than 30 consecutive days, so at 30 consecutive days the rental tax stops applying. It is a definition rather than a discount, which is why a 29 night booking and a 30 night booking are not the same shape of bill. Only 4.6 percent of the 610 listings measured on 18 September 2026 accept a long term booking at all, so the cliff is only reachable on a small part of the market.

Where a Class A RV can go
The limits below are the ones that bind this class, and each links to the park page carrying the quote and the agency URL. Length is the only dimension a listing reliably publishes. Zion measures width and height as well, and what that does to a booking is set out on the home page.
- Zion
15 of the 37 are over the 35 ft 9 in limit. The permit was abolished on 7 June 2026, so there is nothing to buy and the vehicle is turned around.
- Arches
Devils Garden sites run 20 to 40 ft on one park page and up to 30 ft on another. At a 34 ft median this class sits between the two figures.
- Canyonlands
Both campgrounds cap at 28 ft. Two of the 37 meet it. The Elephant Hill Access Road at 21 ft is out for the whole class.
- Bryce Canyon
Bryce Point Road and Paria View Road close to anything over 20 ft, which no Class A in this market meets. Drive a car to those two viewpoints.
Pickup and delivery in the valley
29 of the 37 Class A RV listings measured on 18 September 2026 offer delivery, and 67.9 percent of the whole market does. The host sets the fee, the radius and whether they will drop at a campground or only at an address. This site owns no vehicles and drives nothing, so everything about the handover is agreed with the host on the listing.
If you are flying in, the two published numbers that matter are the airport parking garage at 8 ft 6 in of clearance and the terminal pick-up drive at 13 ft. The airport states that oversized vehicles must make special arrangements and pay additional fees, and it does not publish the amount anywhere. Arrange the handover somewhere other than the garage.

Since 7 June 2026 there is no tunnel permit and no ranger escort, so there is nothing to buy and an over-size vehicle is turned around at Canyon Junction or the East Entrance. Length is the part you can check from a listing. Width and height are not: 80 of the 610 listings in this market publish a width and 86 publish a height, and the National Park Service counts mirrors, tyres and anything bolted to the roof in the 7 ft 10 in width.

Each host sets the rule, any pet cleaning fee and any restriction on being left alone in the vehicle, so get it confirmed in writing on the listing before you pay. Where the dog may then go is a separate rule and it is not the host's. Salt Lake City's watershed rules prohibit dogs, horses and other domestic animals in the protected watersheds outright, which covers Little Cottonwood Canyon, so an animal that is welcome in the vehicle is still barred from the campgrounds above Sandy. This site has not compiled the pet rule for each of the five national parks, so read each park's own pets page before you plan around one.
