Tooele is the pickup for people going west instead of south: the salt, the desert and the Nevada line, rather than the canyons and the parks. It is also the only address in this market on a county tax row that is a fraction of Salt Lake County's, so read BLM's access calendar for your dates and read the contract for the county it names before you book either.

Published day rates across them run $30 to $1795 with a median of $165, before tax, fees, mileage, generator hours and any delivery charge the host sets. A Tooele contract sits on a short-term lease row seven points below Salt Lake County's.
The Tax Commission's quarterly rate chart, in effect from 1 October 2026, gives Tooele County a short-term lease rate of 2.50% against Salt Lake County's 9.50%. Tooele County levies no tourism short-term leasing tax at all, and Tooele City's row carries the same figures as the county. That is seven points of difference on the same vehicle for the same week. Which row applies to a given contract is not stated on the chart itself, so read the contract rather than assuming the pickup address decides it, and ask the host before you book if the saving is what is deciding the booking.
The trip most people collect here for is the Bonneville Salt Flats, and the access calendar is the thing that ruins it. BLM publishes a 2026 schedule of exclusive use dates on its Bonneville page with seven windows between 25 June and 29 September, and counted inclusive they cover 60 of those 97 days. On a closed day visitors may travel up to 100 feet onto the salt from the portal sign and no further. BLM puts the salt 120 miles west of Salt Lake City and the Utah Office of Tourism puts it at 110, and both figures are printed here rather than averaged. A 100 foot walk is an expensive way to spend either distance, so read the calendar on blm.gov before you fix the rental dates. No 2027 calendar is published on that page, and the Speed Week organiser's 2027 slot still reads coming soon.

BLM's Bonneville page says nothing at all about camping, water, restrooms or any facility, and the only BLM sentence found on camping there is in a press release dated 10 August 2017 telling spectators and participants to leave the salt flats to find camping each day. What does exist is statewide: BLM Utah publishes that free dispersed camping is allowed throughout its Utah-managed lands except where posted, with a 14-day limit, travel on designated routes only, and camping only in previously disturbed sites. Except where posted means the sign at the site decides and the web page does not.
West, not south
I-80 past the Great Salt Lake then SR-36. It is the only pickup in this market that is not a Wasatch Front address, and the only one that faces Nevada.

Where you collect it in Tooele
There is no counter here either. A Tooele handover is an owner's driveway or a yard off SR-36, and 67.9% of the 610 listings measured on 18 September 2026 offered delivery at a fee the host sets.
Tooele is inside the 50 mile radius this market was measured across, but it is over the Oquirrhs from most hosts, who reach it on I-80 around the south end of the Great Salt Lake and then SR-36. Ask for the Tooele figure in writing rather than a valley quote, because the valley quote does not cover the range.
If the trip runs west, collecting here removes the whole valley crossing from day one. If it runs south to the parks, it adds one, and the honest comparison is with a pickup on the south side of the Salt Lake Valley instead.

Getting out to the desert
I-80 runs west from the Oquirrhs past the south end of the Great Salt Lake and carries on to the salt and the Nevada line, and SR-36 runs south into town. Neither appears in UDOT's secondary highway restriction table, which is indexed by state route and carries no entry for either road, so no published width, length or height prohibition applies to the drive out. What applies instead is distance and wind, and the absence of anywhere to stop. Fill the fresh tank and the fuel tank before you leave town rather than after.

Ask for all three figures before you book, because on this trip the vehicle is the infrastructure and there is nothing to plug into for 120 miles.

A listing that reads as Salt Lake City can hand over 50 miles from the address you assumed.
No published figure separates day rates by pickup city. Hosts set their own rates and the marketplace does not break them out by where the vehicle is parked, so there is nothing to compare on price. What the location changes is the drive: a Draper or Lehi pickup starts south of the Point of the Mountain grade, an Ogden pickup adds the length of the Salt Lake Valley to a southbound trip, and a Park City pickup means the vehicle comes up Parleys Canyon before you ever see it. Pick the collection point by the direction you are driving. An Ogden pickup for a southern Utah trip costs you the whole valley on day one.
UDOT closes SR-39 at Ogden, SR-92 at Lehi, SR-190 in Big Cottonwood, SR-224 at Park City and SR-150 out of Kamas through the winter, in its own words typically November through May or June, depending on the weather. It publishes no fixed date for any of them, and the gate points and mileposts repeated elsewhere online are not UDOT's figures. Check udottraffic.utah.gov the week you travel, not the month before. A road that was open last season can be gated when you arrive, and a canyon road is a bad place to discover a motorhome's turning circle.
