A Class C is the motorhome built on a van cab with a bed over the cab, and it is the usual choice for a family of four to six who want a bathroom, a kitchen and a vehicle that drives like a large van. It is also the biggest class in this market: 151 were listed within 50 miles of downtown Salt Lake City on 18 September 2026, from $65 to $695 a night, median $219.

Licence
No special licence. Utah Code 53-3-102(3) makes a Class D licence the one for motor vehicles that are not commercial vehicles or motorcycles, and 53-3-102(7)(b)(iv) keeps a recreational vehicle driven as a personal conveyance out of the commercial definition. Utah has no non-commercial Class A or B licence; those letters exist only as CDL classes.
What it is like to drive
It drives close to a large van, with a longer overhang behind the rear wheels than you expect and a cab-over roofline you have to remember at a drive-through and a parking garage. Bring a 30 amp adapter: Zion's Watchman is almost entirely 30 amp, and no campground inside any of the five Utah national parks offers a full hookup.

The tax, and the day it stops
A Class C is a motor vehicle, so Utah's 2.5 percent rental tax and Salt Lake County's 7 percent both apply on top of 8.45 percent sales tax, unless the rental runs 30 consecutive days or the GVWR is 14,001 lbs or more.
Utah Code 59-12-102(135) defines a short-term rental as less than 30 consecutive days, so at 30 consecutive days the rental tax stops applying. It is a definition rather than a discount, which is why a 29 night booking and a 30 night booking are not the same shape of bill. Only 4.6 percent of the 610 listings measured on 18 September 2026 accept a long term booking at all, so the cliff is only reachable on a small part of the market.

Where a Class C RV can go
The limits below are the ones that bind this class, and each links to the park page carrying the quote and the agency URL. Length is the only dimension a listing reliably publishes. Zion measures width and height as well, and what that does to a booking is set out on the home page.
- Zion
Two of the 151 are over the 35 ft 9 in limit. There is no permit to buy since 7 June 2026, so an over-length vehicle is turned around at the gate.
- Capitol Reef
The park publishes 23 ft and 27 ft for the same two spur roads. 7 of the 151 fit the tighter figure, 72 fit the looser one.
- Canyonlands
Both campgrounds cap at 28 ft, which 78 of the 151 meet. The Elephant Hill Access Road closes at 21 ft, which one of the 151 meets.
- Bryce Canyon
Bryce Point Road and Paria View Road close to anything over 20 ft. One of the 151 is that short, so plan to park and walk or take a car.
Pickup and delivery in the valley
116 of the 151 Class C RV listings measured on 18 September 2026 offer delivery, and 67.9 percent of the whole market does. The host sets the fee, the radius and whether they will drop at a campground or only at an address. This site owns no vehicles and drives nothing, so everything about the handover is agreed with the host on the listing.
If you are flying in, the two published numbers that matter are the airport parking garage at 8 ft 6 in of clearance and the terminal pick-up drive at 13 ft. The airport states that oversized vehicles must make special arrangements and pay additional fees, and it does not publish the amount anywhere. Arrange the handover somewhere other than the garage.

A party that needs two vehicles needs two sites.
2 of the 151 Class C RV listings measured on 18 September 2026 exceed Zion's 35 ft 9 in single-vehicle length limit. Since 7 June 2026 there is no tunnel permit and no ranger escort, so there is nothing to buy and an over-size vehicle is turned around at Canyon Junction or the East Entrance. Length is the part you can check from a listing. Width and height are not: 80 of the 610 listings in this market publish a width and 86 publish a height, and the National Park Service counts mirrors, tyres and anything bolted to the roof in the 7 ft 10 in width.
Seven nights at the $219 median published day rate is $1,533 before anything is added, measured 18 September 2026. The class ran $65 to $695 a night on that date, and 93 of the 151 publish a weekly discount, median 10 percent, which is applied by the host rather than by this site. A Class C is a motor vehicle, so Utah's 2.5 percent rental tax and Salt Lake County's 7 percent both apply on top of 8.45 percent sales tax, unless the rental runs 30 consecutive days or the GVWR is 14,001 lbs or more. Each host sets the rule, any pet cleaning fee and any restriction on being left alone in the vehicle, so get it confirmed in writing on the listing before you pay. Where the dog may then go is a separate rule and it is not the host's. Salt Lake City's watershed rules prohibit dogs, horses and other domestic animals in the protected watersheds outright, which covers Little Cottonwood Canyon, so an animal that is welcome in the vehicle is still barred from the campgrounds above Sandy. This site has not compiled the pet rule for each of the five national parks, so read each park's own pets page before you plan around one.

Where a host does deliver, check the address can take the vehicle's length and its turning circle before you accept a drop, and remember the airport garage clears 8 ft 6 in and the terminal pick-up drive 13 ft, with the oversize parking fee not published at all.
