Provo rents an RV for the canyon and the lake more than for the interstate. US-189 runs east from the city to Deer Creek Reservoir and Utah Lake sits on the other side of town, which puts two reservoir campgrounds inside half an hour of the handover, so book the loop before you choose the vehicle: neither park publishes a maximum length for any of them.
610 listings sit within 50 miles of downtown Salt Lake City, measured on 2026-09-18. Published day rates across them run $30 to $1795 with a median of $165, before tax, fees, mileage, generator hours and any delivery charge the host sets. No separate count is published for Provo, because the marketplace is searched by radius rather than by city boundary.

Why people rent an RV in Provo
A Deer Creek week costs $140 more in the loop that has the sewer hookup.
Deer Creek State Park is the first reservoir campground up US-189 from Provo and it prices its loops apart. Fox Den is $60 a night with 50 amp service, water and sewer. Chokecherry is $60 for a 50 amp site, $50 for a 30 amp site and $35 for a tent site. Great Horned Owl has no hookups at all, is dry camping, and the park's own description of it is best for small trailers or small RVs, at $40 a night. Across seven nights the gap between Fox Den and Great Horned Owl is $140, and the cheaper loop is the one the park itself warns about on size. Decide which one you are booking before you choose the vehicle, because a 30 ft motorhome in a loop described for small units is a problem the price did not warn you about.
The booking window is the second thing that shapes a Provo trip. All Deer Creek campgrounds are available by reservation only from 1 May to 15 October, and all campsites open on a four month rolling basis. That means the last bookable night of the season opens on 15 June, and after 15 October there is no reservable state park site up Provo Canyon at all. A late-October canyon plan needs a different overnight, and the park publishes no maximum vehicle length for any of its loops, so the site length is something you ask the park for rather than read.
On the other side of the city, Utah Lake State Park publishes the rule that breaks a shared booking: eight people are allowed per campsite, and one camping unit per site, one tent or one RV or camper, no combinations. Two households arriving with a motorhome and a tent are over that limit as published. If the trip is two families, book two sites or read what the reunion arithmetic looks like before you pay for one.

Where you collect it in Provo
Nothing is collected from a counter here. Handovers happen at the owner's address, along the I-15 frontage roads, on the grid between the freeway and the university, or out toward Utah Lake. 67.9% of the 610 listings measured on 18 September 2026 offered delivery at a fee the host sets. Ask which of those the address is before the day, because the university grid and the lake road are different drives in a vehicle you have owned for ten minutes.
Provo sits near the southern edge of the 50 mile radius this market was measured across, so a host based in Davis or Weber County is driving the length of two valleys to reach you and will price that in. Ask for the Provo figure in writing before you accept. A Deer Creek site is booked to a fixed date on a four month rolling window and cannot be shifted, so a delivery that runs late up US-189 costs you a night you have already paid Utah State Parks for.
Three roads leave from here in three directions: I-15 down the valley, US-6 southeast toward Moab and US-189 east up the canyon. Pick the one you want during the handover rather than at the on-ramp, because the vehicle handles each of them differently and only one of them has a published width prohibition on it.

Before you book near Provo
- Ask the host for height and width in writing. Only 80 of 610 listings publish a width, and Zion counts mirrors.
- Ask for the GVWR on the door plate. At 14,001 lbs or more, Utah's rental tax does not apply at any length of rental.
- Book the campsite before the vehicle. A site publishes a maximum length; a listing never refuses a site.

Getting up Provo Canyon
UDOT's secondary highway restriction table, last updated 22 September 2025, prohibits oversize loads in excess of 10 ft wide on SR-189 between RP 7 and RP 21 at Wallsburg Junction, and allows an exception only by letter of authorization from its Motor Carrier Division. The same table sets both Cottonwood canyons at 12 ft, so Provo Canyon is the tightest published width on any Wasatch canyon road in it. No entry in that table names an RV, a motorhome or a trailer: it binds whatever is on the road. Measure the widest fixed part of the vehicle, awning arms and mirrors included, in the driveway. The letter of authorization is not something you obtain at the canyon mouth.

What stops a vehicle here
Capitol Reef publishes two different RV limits for Grand Wash and Capitol Gorge, 27 ft and 23 ft, and a 25 ft Class C sits between them. Book under 23 ft if you want both spur roads, because the 23 ft figure is on the more recently updated page. Take a 25 ft rig and you may reach the turning and have to reverse it out.

Dump stations and propane
No dump station and no propane supplier in Provo is named in any source this site can link, so none is published here. Up the canyon, Fox Den at Deer Creek publishes sewer at the site and Great Horned Owl publishes no hookups at all, which makes the choice of loop the choice of whether you need one. Ask your host where they empty the tanks and whether the propane bottles are handed over full. 221 of the 610 listings measured on 18 September 2026 publish no fresh water tank figure, so confirm the tank size as well rather than assuming a dry loop is survivable.

This site has not read the Utah County row on the Tax Commission's chart, so no rate is published for it here. Read that line before you budget. Salt Lake County's short-term lease row is 9.50% and Tooele County's is 2.50%, so the spread across this market is real and carrying one county's figure across a county line will be wrong.
That leaves a Provo booking with one figure you have to look up before you can compare it with a Salt Lake County one. Two things do not change across the county line: Utah stops treating a rental as short-term at 30 consecutive days, and Utah Code 59-12-1201(5) exempts a motor vehicle rated at 14,001 lbs gross vehicle weight rating or more at any length of rental. Ask the host to photograph the door plate while you are asking about the width for the canyon, because the same photograph answers both. Work the dates through before you trim a canyon trip to 29 nights.

Every listing measured for this market sits within 50 miles of downtown Salt Lake City, which covers Salt Lake City itself, West Valley City, West Jordan, Sandy, Draper, Lehi, Provo, Ogden, Park City and Tooele. Each host chooses where the vehicle lives and whether they will move it, so the collection point is a per-listing question rather than a city-wide one. Confirm the address before you pay. A listing that reads as Salt Lake City can hand over 50 miles from the address you assumed.
No published figure separates day rates by pickup city. Hosts set their own rates and the marketplace does not break them out by where the vehicle is parked, so there is nothing to compare on price. What the location changes is the drive: a Draper or Lehi pickup starts south of the Point of the Mountain grade, an Ogden pickup adds the length of the Salt Lake Valley to a southbound trip, and a Park City pickup means the vehicle comes up Parleys Canyon before you ever see it. Pick the collection point by the direction you are driving. An Ogden pickup for a southern Utah trip costs you the whole valley on day one.
UDOT closes SR-39 at Ogden, SR-92 at Lehi, SR-190 in Big Cottonwood, SR-224 at Park City and SR-150 out of Kamas through the winter, in its own words typically November through May or June, depending on the weather. It publishes no fixed date for any of them, and the gate points and mileposts repeated elsewhere online are not UDOT's figures. Check udottraffic.utah.gov the week you travel, not the month before. A road that was open last season can be gated when you arrive, and a canyon road is a bad place to discover a motorhome's turning circle.
