Travel Trailer Rental in Salt Lake City

Reviewed by Ben Kiser, RV rental operator and fleet consultant.

A travel trailer is a towable you hitch to a pickup or an SUV, unhitch at the campsite and leave there while you drive the tow vehicle into the park. It is the cheapest way into this market by a wide margin: 244 were listed within 50 miles of downtown Salt Lake City on 18 September 2026, from $30 to $375 a night, median $119.

What you get in a Travel Trailer

Also listed as a towable trailer. Every count below is what the hosts in this market publish on their own listings, measured 18 September 2026. A host who publishes nothing is counted as publishing nothing, so confirm anything that decides the trip on the listing itself.

Sleeping capacity

Two to ten, median five, from the 241 of 244 that publish a figure. 118 sleep six or more and 208 sleep four or more.

Length

8 ft to 38 ft, median 24.5 ft. That is the trailer alone. Only 25 of the 286 towables in this market publish a length including the hitch.

Licence

No special licence to tow a travel trailer in Utah as a personal conveyance. What you do need is a tow vehicle rated for the loaded weight of the trailer, and this market does not rent one to you: check your own vehicle's tow rating and hitch class against the trailer's loaded weight, and ask the host for that weight in writing before you book.

What it is like to drive

You are measured on the combination, not the trailer. Zion allows 50 ft overall and 26 ft from the hitch to the rear axle, and 54 of the 244 trailers here are over 30 ft on their own, which leaves under 20 ft for the truck. Reversing a trailer is the skill people underestimate, so ask the host to watch you hitch and back up once before you leave.

What is aboard

  • A stove on 240 of the 244 listed here, a kitchen sink on 235, a refrigerator on 225
  • A toilet on 215 and an inside shower on 211
  • An outside shower on 149
  • No engine to maintain, and a tow vehicle you keep driving once you have unhitched
  • Air conditioning on 228 and a heater on 232
  • Solar on 131, an onboard generator on 112
  • Median published fresh water tank 42 gallons, from the 166 that publish one
  • Median model year 2022, with 197 of the 244 at 2020 or newer

Who it suits

  • The lowest nightly cost in this market, at a $119 median against $219 for a Class C
  • Trips where you want to unhitch and drive an ordinary vehicle into the park
  • Collecting in the Salt Lake valley, where the towable rental tax column is blank

Every listing sets its own inventory. Confirm on the listing rather than assuming any of this is present on the unit you book.

The tax, and the day it stops

A trailer is not a motor vehicle, so Utah's 2.5 percent motor vehicle rental tax does not apply and Salt Lake County's off-highway and recreational vehicle rental column is blank. Grand County and Washington County both show 7 percent, so where you collect changes the bill.

Utah Code 59-12-102(135) defines a short-term rental as less than 30 consecutive days, so at 30 consecutive days the rental tax stops applying. It is a definition rather than a discount, which is why a 29 night booking and a 30 night booking are not the same shape of bill. Only 4.6 percent of the 610 listings measured on 18 September 2026 accept a long term booking at all, so the cliff is only reachable on a small part of the market.

These come straight from the marketplace, so the set changes between visits. They are published by their owners and booked on the marketplace that published them. Which of these clear the tightest park limits

19 of the 19 listed below publish a length, counted here against the three published bars that turn a vehicle around outright:

Length only. Zion also enforces 7 ft 10 in of width and 11 ft 4 in of height, and 80 of the 610 listings in this market publish a width. Ask the host for both in writing.

Where a Travel Trailer can go

The limits below are the ones that bind this class, and each links to the park page carrying the quote and the agency URL. Length is the only dimension a listing reliably publishes. Zion measures width and height as well, and what that does to a booking is set out on the home page.

  • Zion

50 ft overall and 26 ft hitch to rear axle. Six of the 244 are over 35 ft 9 in on their own, and 25 of 286 towables publish a length with the hitch.

  • Canyonlands

Both campgrounds cap at 28 ft, which 162 of the 244 meet as a trailer. The Elephant Hill Access Road closes at 21 ft, which 86 meet.

  • Bryce Canyon

Bryce Point Road and Paria View Road close to anything over 20 ft, which 67 of the 244 meet. Unhitching first is what makes this work.

  • Arches

Devils Garden sites run 20 to 40 ft on one park page and up to 30 ft on another. Book the site on its published length, not the park's.

Compare every published limit, tightest first

Pickup and delivery in the valley

161 of the 244 Travel Trailer listings measured on 18 September 2026 offer delivery, and 67.9 percent of the whole market does. The host sets the fee, the radius and whether they will drop at a campground or only at an address. This site owns no vehicles and drives nothing, so everything about the handover is agreed with the host on the listing.

If you are flying in, the two published numbers that matter are the airport parking garage at 8 ft 6 in of clearance and the terminal pick-up drive at 13 ft. The airport states that oversized vehicles must make special arrangements and pay additional fees, and it does not publish the amount anywhere. Arrange the handover somewhere other than the garage.

Travel Trailer rental questions

No special licence to tow a travel trailer in Utah as a personal conveyance. What you do need is a tow vehicle rated for the loaded weight of the trailer, and this market does not rent one to you: check your own vehicle's tow rating and hitch class against the trailer's loaded weight, and ask the host for that weight in writing before you book.
Two to ten, median five, from the 241 of 244 that publish a figure. 118 sleep six or more and 208 sleep four or more. Book the campsite against that number as well as the vehicle: Zion allows a maximum of 6 people and only 1 RV or camping trailer per site, and Bryce allows 6 adults aged 16 or over and 10 occupants in total. A party that needs two vehicles needs two sites.
6 of the 244 Travel Trailer listings measured on 18 September 2026 exceed Zion's 35 ft 9 in single-vehicle length limit. Since 7 June 2026 there is no tunnel permit and no ranger escort, so there is nothing to buy and an over-size vehicle is turned around at Canyon Junction or the East Entrance. Length is the part you can check from a listing. Width and height are not: 80 of the 610 listings in this market publish a width and 86 publish a height, and the National Park Service counts mirrors, tyres and anything bolted to the roof in the 7 ft 10 in width.
Seven nights at the $119 median published day rate is $833 before anything is added, measured 18 September 2026. The class ran $30 to $375 a night on that date, and 210 of the 244 publish a weekly discount, median 10 percent, which is applied by the host rather than by this site. A trailer is not a motor vehicle, so Utah's 2.5 percent motor vehicle rental tax does not apply and Salt Lake County's off-highway and recreational vehicle rental column is blank. Grand County and Washington County both show 7 percent, so where you collect changes the bill. On top of that sit the fees the listing sets: mileage, generator hours, cleaning, a security deposit and any delivery charge. Work a specific trip through the trip cost page rather than multiplying the median.
173 of the 244 Travel Trailer listings measured on 18 September 2026 publish a pet friendly flag. The other 71 either say no or publish nothing at all, and a blank is not a yes. Each host sets the rule, any pet cleaning fee and any restriction on being left alone in the vehicle, so get it confirmed in writing on the listing before you pay. Where the dog may then go is a separate rule and it is not the host's. Salt Lake City's watershed rules prohibit dogs, horses and other domestic animals in the protected watersheds outright, which covers Little Cottonwood Canyon, so an animal that is welcome in the vehicle is still barred from the campgrounds above Sandy. This site has not compiled the pet rule for each of the five national parks, so read each park's own pets page before you plan around one.
161 of the 244 Travel Trailer listings measured on 18 September 2026 offer delivery, at a fee the host sets. This site owns no vehicles, drives nothing, arranges no delivery and sets no fee. Where a host does deliver, check the address can take the vehicle's length and its turning circle before you accept a drop, and remember the airport garage clears 8 ft 6 in and the terminal pick-up drive 13 ft, with the oversize parking fee not published at all.

Get the length and the width before you pay

Every listing in this market publishes a length. 80 of 610 publish a width, and width is what Zion measures, mirrors included. Ask the host for it in writing, because an answer you can point at later has to be written down anyway.
