Salt Lake City RV Rental is a finder. It owns no RVs, takes no bookings and holds no money. Every rental listed here is a contract between you and the host who owns the vehicle, made on Outdoorsy. The policies that bind you are the ones printed on the listing you book, so the job of this page is to tell you which ones to read and what they cost when you skip them.

Reservations and payment

Booking, payment and confirmation all happen on Outdoorsy. This site blocks no dates and processes no card. A nightly rate shown anywhere on this site was read from a listing on the date recorded beside it and can change before you book.

Across the 610 Salt Lake City area listings measured on 18 September 2026, 39.5% offered instant book. The rest are a request the host has to accept, which is a different thing from a reservation. Do not book flights or a campsite against a request.

Cancellation

Cancellation windows and refund amounts are set by the host, chosen from Outdoorsy's policy tiers, and shown on the listing before you pay. They differ from one listing to the next. This site cannot cancel a booking, change a policy or return a deposit, because it never received the payment.

Campground cancellations are separate and stricter. Bryce Canyon's Sunset Campground takes reservations only 14 days ahead, and Zion's South Campground the same, while Watchman and North take them six months out. A trip built on a six month campground booking and a cancellable RV can survive a change of plan. The reverse cannot.

Security deposits and damage

Deposits are held by the marketplace or the host, not by this site. Damage is assessed by the host against the condition report taken at pickup. Photograph the unit at handover, including the roof line, the mirrors and every existing scrape, and do it again at return.

The clause that catches Utah renters is the paved road clause. The National Park Service writes that most vehicle rental agreements restrict vehicles to paved roads, that the rental company can charge you for damage outside the contract, and that people caught in the backcountry with a disabled vehicle can expect towing fees in excess of $2,000. Elephant Hill Access Road at Canyonlands is unpaved and bars anything over 21 feet overall. Read the contract before you turn off the asphalt.

Pickup, return and delivery

Pickup location, walkthrough and return time are the host's. Delivery is offered by individual hosts for a fee they set themselves, and was offered on 67.9% of the listings measured on 18 September 2026. This site delivers nothing and stages nothing.

If you are flying in, check the vehicle before you assume the airport works. Salt Lake City International states that the parking garage has a clearance height of 8 feet 6 inches and that there is a 13 foot height restriction to drive in front of the terminal. It also states that oversized vehicles must make special arrangements and pay additional fees, and it does not publish what those fees are. The words RV, motorhome, camper and trailer appear on none of its parking pages. The only published route is a phone call to the Parking Division for an unpublished amount.

Mileage, generator hours and pets

Mileage allowances, per mile overage rates, generator hour limits, pet permission and pet cleaning fees are per listing. Outdoorsy shows each of them on the listing page. There is no site wide rule here to quote, and inventing one would be worse than saying so.

Where the vehicle may legally go

This is the part no rental policy will tell you and the part that ends trips. Since 7 June 2026 the National Park Service refuses, rather than escorts, oversize vehicles on the highway between Canyon Junction and Zion's East Entrance. The limits are 35 feet 9 inches long, 7 feet 10 inches wide, 11 feet 4 inches high and 50,000 pounds, and the measurement includes mirrors, tires and attachments such as AC units and bike racks. The old tunnel permit and its fee are gone. An oversize vehicle is given instructions for turning around.

Width is the clause that bites, and the marketplace cannot help you with it. All 610 listings measured on 18 September 2026 publish a length. Only 80 publish a width and only 86 publish a height. Of 37 Class A listings, 15 are already over the 35 foot 9 inch length limit before anyone measures a mirror. Ask the host for the mirror to mirror width in writing before you book a trip that goes through Zion.

Bryce Canyon closes the Bryce Point Road east of the Inspiration Point intersection, including Paria View Road, to RVs over 20 feet and to anything towing. That rule lives in the Superintendent's Compendium and appears on no Plan Your Visit page, so a renter reading the park's front door pages will never see it.

Utah rental tax, and the day 30 cliff

Utah imposes 2.5% on short term motor vehicle rentals under Utah Code 59-12-1201(2)(a)(i), and Salt Lake County adds 7% on top of ordinary sales tax. Utah Code 59-12-102(135) defines a short term rental as less than 30 consecutive days, so at 30 consecutive days those 9.5 points stop applying. That is a definition, not a discount. A motor vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating of 14,001 pounds or more is exempt at any length under 59-12-1201(5).

The Tax Commission website still publishes the superseded 12,001 pound figure. Rely on the statute. Tax is collected by the marketplace at checkout, never by this site.

Insurance and roadside assistance

Protection plans are offered by Outdoorsy at checkout and carry deductibles and exclusions stated in the plan. Roadside assistance on eligible Outdoorsy bookings comes through that marketplace protection. This site provides neither and can confirm neither. Check your own auto policy and your card benefits as well.
